Club Wyndham Introduces New Sustainability Initiatives

New sustainability initiatives across 23 of Club Wyndham South Pacific’s resorts in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji have been announced. These green practices will not only help protect the environment but are also designed to create an enhanced guest and club member experience.

Wyndham Destinations President and Managing Director of International Operations Barry Robinson stated:

“From Port Douglas in Australia to Wanaka in New Zealand, our resorts are located in some of the most beautiful destinations on Earth. We are proud to help preserve the environments in which we operate for future generations through the implementation of sustainable practices.”

Robinson has helped lead these new sustainability efforts and find innovative ways to work in an eco-focused approach across Wyndham’s properties.

Across its Club Wyndham, Ramada by Wyndham, and Wyndham-branded resorts, Wyndham Destinations Asia Pacific has rolled out a number of green initiatives in the region:

  • Replacing plastic hotel room keys with sustainable bamboo cards
  • 81% reduction on corporate office paper consumption
  • Removing majority of in-room plastic and paper collateral with digital in-room experience
  • Use of sustainable wheat straw pens are resorts and corporate offices
  • no plastic packaging on orders of USBs and biros
  • 100% recycled materials on bulk amenities to replace single-use plastic
  • Use of bio cutlery and packaging in food and beverage sectors
  • Energy efficient lighting across resorts
  • Use of eco-friendly straws across resorts
  • Hosting ‘clean up’ events across resorts
  • Creating vegetable and herb gardens at some resort locations
  • Implementing digital contracting processes
  • Eliminating the use of balloons at events and celebrations across resorts
  • Starting composting programs across many resorts and corporate offices
  • Furniture recycling programs for all resort refurbishment projects
  • Use of free-range eggs at Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji resorts
  • Use of sustainably sourced suppliers
  • Replacement of petrol buggies with e-carts (Ramada by Wyndham Phillip Island)
  • Grey water harvesting and irrigation (Club Wyndham Seven Mile Beach, Tasmania)
  • In-room videos to show guests and members the importance of sustainable travel
  • Monthly monitoring, recording, and optimizing of energy and water use

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ample downtime many of these resorts faced throughout the past 19 months, the brand has been utilizing its resources to enhance and create a new type of visitor experience, including new resort activities and eco-friendly practices.

Robinson added:
