Wyndham Destinations, a Travel + Leisure Co. business and the world’s largest vacation ownership brand, has just completed its latest solar installation project as a part of its goal to bring alternative energy to its properties.
Limetree Beach Resort by Club Wyndham in St. Thomas has just finished its installation and WorldMark Clear Lake Resort in Nice, California, will finish up its installation this spring. These two installations, in addition to the 17 other properties with solar technologies, will generate an estimated annual solar output of more than nine million kilowatt-hours.
Between all 19 properties, Wyndham has invested in over 18,000 solar panels.
Solar is just one part of the larger equation. As part of Wyndham’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, the company is investing in technologies and opportunities to reduce its water and energy use across its over 245 resorts.
The company is also installing water use reduction and leak detection technologies in its suites which will cut water use by around 15-17% on average. The company has plans to have these technologies installed in as many as 25% of Wyndham Destinations-managed resorts by the end of the calendar year.
As a part of its Environmental Sustainability goals published in its 2021 ESG Report, the company is moving towards these objectives:
- 20% renewable energy consumption of total electricity at managed resorts (by 2030)
- 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from a 2010 baseline (by 2025)
- 35% reduction in water withdrawal per square foot from a 2010 baseline (by 2025)
COO of Wyndham Destinations Geoff Richards stated:
